All heat sources should be fitted to an appropriate thermostat which will ensure the temperature does not drop too low, and also does not get dangerously high. The Habistat Pulse Thermostat is ideal for controlling higher power ceramic heaters, radiators, heat cables and for heat mats.
A normal thermostat switches a heater on full power until the set temperature is achieved. It then switches the heater off completely until the temperature drops below the set value, when the cycle starts over again. The gap between the heater being switched on and then off is called hysteresis. It is between these points that the accuracy of the controller is assessed.
Unlike a standard on/ off thermostat, which switches a heater on and off once set temperature levels have been achieved, the Pulse Proportional Thermostat pulses electricity to the heater all the time. The power of the electricity sent is increased and decreased as required. This results in constant and very accurately managed warmth.
